Previous
Projects
Over
the last 6 years the WCMF has been fundamental in the
success of a number of broadcasting projects in Wiltshire.
In total, these projects have actively engaged over 100
adults and teenagers with many receiving recognised qualifications
in broadcasting and radio production.
Here's
a selection of the projects we've been involved with...
Radio
Bemerton
A community based broadcasting project extensively focused
on engaging adults and teenagers from the Bemerton Heath
area of Salisbury. The project focused on encouraging
local people to take up post education training in order
to improve literacy and numeracy skills, whilst at the
same time providing a locally focused information service
to local residents.
The
project completed a total of three live broadcasts, ranging
from 9 to 28 days in duration over a period of 4 years.
In total, the project engaged over 50 local people with
not less than 75 Open College Network Qualifications in
Radio Production and Sound & Audio production being
awarded to its members. In addition, many adults developed
further skills in basic numeracy and literacy.

Volunteers
from Radio Bemerton's first broadcast receive
their OCN certificates.

Salisbury's Young Person's Academy
The YPA was established to run concurrently with the Radio
Bemerton Project. Whilst Radio Bemerton concentrated on
training adults, the Young Person's Academy developed
training and broadcast programmes designed for children
in the 11 to 16 age range.
Members
of the YPA were responsible for producing and presenting
a number of programmes dedicated to a teenage audience
at weekends during the main Radio Bemerton broadcast period.

Members
of the
Salisbury's Young Persons Academy get to visit Spire
FM's where presenter Martin Starke was on hand to
demonstrate some of the skills needed to present
a live radio show.

The
YPA was successful in awarding over 30 teenagers with
certificates of achievement with a further 15 OCN qualifications
being presented to eligible members.

WicKID FM
WicKID FM, as the name implies, is a broadcasting project
designed with teenagers and younger children in mind.
Having undertaken a very successful 9 day broadcast in
late 2007, the station has recently completed a second
7 day broadcast this year.
The
project was a natural progression from the Young Person's
Academy, and saw over 40 teenagers from Salisbury and
the surround areas become actively involved with creating
their own 'kids' radio station. The programmes, produced
and presented by its members, were designed to appeal
directly to listeners of a similar age group.
WicKID
FM plans to return during early 2009
